Nitroglycerin sublingual (SL) is a potent vasodilator primarily indicated for the acute management and prophylaxis of angina pectoris. By releasing nitric oxide, it induces the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle, leading to systemic venodilation and arterial dilation. This action reduces both preload and afterload on the heart, significantly decreasing myocardial oxygen demand and improving blood flow to ischemic areas of the heart muscle.

Patients should be advised to sit down when taking the medication, as it may cause a rapid drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness or syncope. Common side effects include headache, flushing, and tachycardia. If chest pain persists after taking three doses at five-minute intervals, the patient must seek immediate emergency medical attention, as this may indicate an acute myocardial infarction.

يُنصح المرضى بالجلوس عند تناول هذا الدواء، حيث قد يسبب انخفاضاً سريعاً في ضغط الدم، مما يؤدي إلى الدوار أو الإغماء. تشمل الآثار الجانبية الشائعة الصداع، واحمرار الوجه، وتسارع ضربات القلب. إذا استمر ألم الصدر بعد تناول ثلاث جرعات بفاصل خمس دقائق بين كل جرعة، يجب على المريض طلب الرعاية الطبية الطارئة فوراً، حيث قد يشير ذلك إلى حدوث احتشاء حاد في عضلة القلب.
