Mediflam D.T (Diclofenac Sodium 50 mg) is a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated as a dispersible tablet to facilitate rapid absorption and a faster onset of therapeutic action. It is widely prescribed in orthopedic, dental, and general clinical settings to manage acute pain, inflammation, and swelling. Common indications include rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, and post-traumatic or post-operative musculoskeletal pain. It exerts its pharmacological effect by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), which subsequently decreases the synthesis of prostaglandins—the primary mediators of pain, fever, and inflammation in the body.
As a dispersible tablet, Mediflam D.T must be dissolved in a small amount of water before ingestion, making it an ideal choice for patients who experience difficulty swallowing standard solid oral dosage forms. Despite its clinical efficacy, long-term or high-dose therapy is associated with significant gastrointestinal risks, including dyspepsia, mucosal ulceration, and hemorrhage. It may also increase the risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events and impair renal function. Consequently, it should be administered at the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary, and is contraindicated in patients with active gastrointestinal bleeding, severe heart failure, or advanced renal impairment.
