Bismuth subsalicylate is a salicylate drug used to treat temporary discomforts of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract, such as diarrhea, indigestion, heartburn, and nausea. It works through a dual mechanism: the bismuth component provides an antacid and mild antibacterial effect, while the salicylate component helps reduce inflammation and fluid secretion in the intestines. It is often used as a first-line treatment for traveler's diarrhea and dyspepsia.

Patients should be aware of common side effects, including the harmless darkening of the tongue and stool, which occurs due to the reaction of bismuth with trace amounts of sulfur in the saliva and digestive tract. It is contraindicated in children recovering from viral infections (due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome) and should be used with caution in patients taking aspirin or other NSAIDs to avoid salicylate toxicity.

يُعد "بيسموث سابساليسيلات" دواءً ينتمي إلى فئة الساليسيلات، ويُستخدم لعلاج الانزعاج المؤقت في المعدة والجهاز الهضمي، مثل الإسهال، وعسر الهضم، وحرقة المعدة، والغثيان. يعمل الدواء من خلال آلية مزدوجة؛ حيث يوفر مكون "البيسموث" تأثيراً مضاداً للحموضة ومضاداً للبكتيريا بشكل خفيف، بينما يساعد مكون "الساليسيلات" في تقليل الالتهاب وإفراز السوائل في الأمعاء. وغالباً ما يُستخدم كعلاج أولي لإسهال المسافرين وعسر الهضم.

يجب على المرضى أن يكونوا على دراية بالآثار الجانبية الشائعة، بما في ذلك التلون الداكن غير الضار للسان والبراز، والذي يحدث نتيجة تفاعل البيسموث مع كميات ضئيلة من الكبريت في اللعاب والجهاز الهضمي. يُمنع استخدام هذا الدواء للأطفال الذين يتعافون من عدوى فيروسية (بسبب خطر الإصابة بمتلازمة راي)، ويجب استخدامه بحذر لدى المرضى الذين يتناولون الأسبرين أو مضادات الالتهاب غير الستيرويدية الأخرى لتجنب سمية الساليسيلات.
