Primary Hip Arthroplasty Case Title: Uncemented Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty Metal Back Socket

Age: 69

Sex: Female

 

Relevant Past Medical History

 

Principal pathologies: None.

History of presenting complaint: Pain of the right hip worsen in the last months.

Preoperative Planning

 

Diagnosis: Osteoarthritis of the right hip (Fig. 3.4). Chosen treatment method: Uncemented acetabular shell Depuy PINNACLE POROCOAT

50 mm, polyethylene Depuy PINNACLE MARATHON 32 mm, uncemented hip stem Depuy, size 1, STD, 125 mm and ceramic femoral head Depuy 32 mm, + 9 mm.

Patient’s position: Lateral decubitus Type of anaesthesia: General Surgical approach: Direct Superior

Postoperative Management

 

Chemoprophylaxis and anticoagulant treatment period: Vancomycin 500 mg 1 × 2 for two days, cefuroxime 750 mg 1 × 3 for two days, enoxaparin 1 × 1 for two days and then rivaroxaban 10 mg for thirty days.

Gait/limb loading until full loading: Partial weight-bearing for four weeks. At six weeks, full weight-bearing.
